Crew Team LettersLetter from Steve Gladstone, Cal Crew Director:Dear Alumni, Family, and Friends, Allow me to give you a brief update on the Men's Crew. The racing in San Diego was successful. Attached you will find the race results if you haven't already seen them. The Varsity won the Copley Cup for the seventh consecutive year. In fact, all the crews won their races. In the opening heat of the Varsity race Saturday morning Stanford rowed an exceptionally aggressive race and beat our crew convincingly. That evening, before our practice row I had a talk with the Varsity, JV and 3V about bringing their "A" game. The Varsity's response in Sunday's Grand Final was satisfying. They came out full of fire and led wire to wire. (Craig Amerkhanian is to be congratulated. Stanford Varsity Crew is the real deal.) This week, we have the Windermere races. Please see the attached schedule. The likelihood is that we will go with the same lineups that we raced in San Diego. However, the following week we'll do some reevaluations. I think the likelihood of having the same boatings for the Washington Dual in Seattle is not great. As I indicated in my earlier messages to you, we have good depth so the pot will continue to boil so that we are able to bring forth our best effort at the IRA. The new T. Gary Rogers Rowing Center is becoming increasingly comfortable for all of us. It really allows us to do our work efficiently and in a beautiful environment. I would ask all of you to please consider making another gift to this project (we're still a million and a half short) as well as to the annual fund. I know this is a lot to ask, none-the-less, we're all in this together, and in fact we do need your help. Contributions to the Estuary Boathouse Fund can be sent to the following address: Friends of California Men's Crew To contribute to the Annual Fund, please click here. If you would rather send your contribution, please specify Men's Crew and mail to: University Relations I look forward to seeing you all soon. All My Best, GO BEARS! |
